DIY Pintucked Silk Pillow

I received a few email questions about the lovely silk pillow beside Mom's new Vallila pillows (that I blogged about yesterday).

In a creative frenzy my mom whipped up this gorgeous, randomly pintucked silk pillow.  She opted for pintucks because a plain silk pillow (made from a silk remnant) would have left her with an awkward strip of silk and we don't waste silk in our family.  Sadly, I have no tutorial because my mom & I were at opposite ends of the province while she was on a creative roll but take a look at the photos below for some inspiration for your own pintucked pillow - and then post a tutorial ;)

A couple close-up photos for you ambitious DIY'ers who will actually give this a whirl (and not just ogle things, like I too often do):

  1. Nice! Aren't those pleats? I don't think I like the look of pin tucks, so this is much better...

  2. I like to consider myself a pretty quick learner but this looks way too complicated. I am in awe of your mom. Now I know where you get your mad skills from!!

  3. Thanks, ladies, I'll pass on the kind compliments.

Anonymous:, good Q. But a pintuck is just an ornamental fold, so I think this counts. From googling around, many "pintucked" pillows for sale look just like this one. Pleated ones tend to have larger folds or be more elaborate.

There is such a range of styles with pintucked or pleated pillows. Something for everyone!

But tomato tomahto, right? I'm glad you like!

  7. Simply gorgeous! Your mom's creative energy amazes me. She stays so motivated. It takes me weeks to work up enough initiative to get the sewing machine out.

  11. so pretty! Since you mentioned she used reminants, did she do a horizontal seam and it's behind one of the tucks? If so, that's genius!

  12. I'm late to feed this pillow's ego my love, and to bid on your mother for, like, an hour a week.

Better than a bid, a barter! You can have my ridiculously adorable puppy for an hour a week, I get your mother's skilled handiwork.

Deal? [obviously, I kid. She would need to work for way more than an hour]:)

  13. Holy cow! That's gorgeous! Unfortunately, I will not be the blogger to attempt this then write a tutorial. I'd much prefer to ogle :)
