Treasure Hunting Report: Green and Turquoise Galore

I haven’t been documenting most of the goodies I’ve been buying up for the Etsy shop because I’ve been washing, cataloging and boxing up the stuff as quick as I can to keep house clutter at a minimum. Remember: our nutty plan was to list a bunch of the stuff we have, give it a whirl for the summer and then evaluate.  Happily, it’s been such a success we’ll definitely re-open in 2013!  And I promise to share the reason for the weird, four month hiatus soon.  Just know there’s a ton of goodies waiting.  All neat and tidy so they don’t drive me insane.  Here’s a peek at a couple shop-bound items, and also a few I’m keeping.

I was super excited to find (what I think are) stone coasters, after drooling over ones I couldn’t afford.  Except the other day I accidentally smashed one.  Sigh.  It was my favorite one, too.

The coasters (minus one) are sitting beside a sweet wood frame I bought for a photo I keep of Hubby in the office.  The design is so smart: instead of taking up cumbersome space with the usual flip out stand, the thick frame supports itself and the photo slides in on the bottom.  Great for balancing on a skinny stack of books, too.

These moss green, bakelite earrings are shop-bound because I know someone will love them.  At the very least, they are so cute for a retro Halloween costume!

Never before have I found jadeite while thrifting, until spotting this egg cup holder.  Meant to keep an egg warm under the cup (when it’s flipped over) I think it works this way as a sweet vase.  I’m all about flipping things over.

I found this pretty green vintage Haeger vase with the label still attached.

A teeny tiny little enamel dish is perfect for keeping jewellery organized in a jewellery box or drawer.  I really like the forest green with the teal and gold.

This is a weird purchase for me, but I couldn’t resist.  I want to live on a beach so badly, but this little shell dish is the closest I’m going to get in the foreseeable future:

It has little glass half-spheres glued on as “feet,” making this a cute DIY idea for any shells you might have collected on travels.

I keep it on the re-furbished tray by the garage door.  That’s also where I store my “painting glasses,” so now there’s a handy place to toss any jewellery I might have left on.  Once I accidentally spray painted wearing pearl studs, so now I need this reminder to doff my jewels before heading out to the garage for some DIY fun.

I think this is my favorite: a large turquoise bowl that adds another much welcomed dose of turquoise to the living room, balancing the McCoy planter.  Stamped “Calif USA C607”.

Oy.  There’s oodles more.  I need to get busy snapping more photos!

How about you: any cute finds recently?  Ever find yourself buying things in all one colour, all on one day (I noticed a really green theme editing this post)?

Love your finds! Sorry to hear about your coaster. I hate when favorite somethings get broken!

Awww, I know, it was so disappointing because it was really shortly after I bought them that one went crash. I barely got to enjoy it!

Hi Hannah, Hubby's grandpa is an artist and painted the pair of paintings above the sofa in the 1980s. We scooped them when he gave us a choice of artwork as a wedding present. He still sells his art and you can find out more here: http://www.bertweir.com

"Painting glasses?" Why did I not think of this?! I can barely read this post because my specs are covered in aqua, grey, and white splashes right now.

Ha ha! Oh yes, I have a spare pair (of the wrong prescription – probably doesn't help) that I try to remember to wear for messy projects. Hmmm, but seeing the world through specks of turquoise would actually be pretty swell 😉

Love the little shell bowl. Also love the idea of painting glasses. I've never thought of that and routinely get a light coating of spray paint over spray on my glasses. I've been finding pieces of Asian blue and white porcelain at the thrift stores recently. I really think they have a big stash in the back and put out one piece at a time as I purchase them. The store is close by and I stop every other day or so and am finding new pieces. I'm up to 5 right now having just picked up a cute planter. They are currently on my credenza and kind of clash in my turquoise living room. I think they will look wonderful in my sour apple green dining room on the table though.
