CIL Giveaway Winner + A Question

Just a quick note to announce the winner of the giveaway sponsored by CIL.  Drumroll . . . congratulations Jordana of White Cabana!  I'll be in touch shortly to connect you with CIL.

Thanks to everyone who entered (apologies to my non-Canadian readers who were left out of the running this time).  A quick question for you: do you like when blogs host giveaways?  I turn down a lot of giveaway opportunities because I don't want giveaways to clutter the blog.  I happily said yes to this one because it was a good fit but, ultimately, giveaway are a clever way for companies to advertise - something I'm trying to keep to a minimum in this little space I've carved out on the internet.  What do you think?

  1. Hi! Because I live in Canada, when I see the word Giveaway I don't even visit that blog! I came here today because I happened to read the "description" in Blogger Dashboard, but normally I never even give those blogs a second glance - even if the giveway was open to me!!
    Thanks!

    1. I have to admit, I rarely enter giveaways myself but then when a reader wins something it makes me so happy, so I think I enjoy this end of things more! I'm happy you're so honest, because I want to know if they are something readers like.

  2. My 2 cents.... I like when blogs mix in the giveaway with a post that is relevant to it--- like I'm giving away this product, and here's how I used it myself and a review of it. :)

  3. I love the idea of give aways and http://abeautifulmess.com/ always has good ones too! I didn't enter in this one because I'm a renter and I don't need any paint at the moment! But I love the hope that comes with winning a prize, but I rarely win anything so it's hard to keep that hope alive ;)

    1. Haha, I never win anything either. Hopefully the next giveaway I host will be something more portable :)

  4. I like giveaways (in fact im having one right now and one in a few weeks!) but, they have to be a decent fit. I think DIY supplies, home decor, and makeup & jewelry are ok, because those are the things I like....it's my blog so I can go what I want, so same goes to you :)

p.s. I love giveaways...select giveaways...they have to be a good fit for my blog and, like you, I want to make sure my blog isn't just a "giveaway blog".
p.p.s. It was my mom who got to Dans Le Townhouse before I did today. She called with the new. The whole family is a fan of your DLT!

    1. See? This is why I still host them - I'm SO happy for you and it's making my day that you're so thrilled. It's so fun that your whole family reads the blog :) Tell them I say "hello". I'm going to email you tonight and put you in touch with CIL. Maybe you'll share photos of your painted room . . . ?

  6. It annoys me when people give away things that don't seem related to their blog, but as long as it's related to the content normally posted, doesn't happen too frequently, and ships to Canada, I enjoy them.

    1. Great points!! It's nice when a giveaway is for us, too, isn't is?

  7. Give aways are great as long as they are related to the blog. If you were doing one for baby accessories or sports tickets....nah, don't wanna see that. It doesn't clutter up a blog if it's related.....we do choose to be here because of the specifics of this blog, so a give away related to those specifics is a bonus.

    1. Oh gosh, can you imagine me doing a giveaway for sports tickets? "Um, okay folks, something exciting here. There's a place, where you go, and sit in the cold, and watch people push a puck around. Can't think of the word, but apparently it's normally crazy expensive to do this . . . fun . . . thing. But now you can sit in the cold and cheer for incredibly tall dudes on skates for free. Yay giveaway!"

I'm happy to know the giveaways aren't a bore to readers. I pledge to keep sticking to things I think are cool and fit the blog.

  8. I like them! And as you are a fellow Canadian I am expecting it to be open/ship to Canadian's as well :) And like everyone said.. as long as it is relevant to the blog...

Hope you're warming up! It's TERRIBLY cold here in the prairies.....
