I Have Teal Hair Now

Yup, that’s me, with teal hair.  I actually went to the salon on Tuesday (April 1st!), but I didn’t think you’d believe it was permanent if I showed off my ombré locks on April Fool’s Day.

You might by wondering . . . why?

I’m turning 30 in June.  30!!  My twenties were awesome, so I figure thirty can only be better.  But there’s something about leaving my twenties that has me feeling really bold – like there’s no time to waste.  I want to do everything I’ve always wanted to do, before I run out of time.  This is just one of those things.

Getting these ombré locks was a neat process.  It was also a lot more labor-intensive than I imagined and my derriere was totally numb from sitting in the salon chair for so long (at least they had Elle Decor).  My stylist mussed up my hair a little and bleached the bottom.  By messing it up (back combing a little), the bleached section didn’t become a hard line but was more feathered.  After bleaching the bottom half, she applied blue to both the bottom section of my naturally brown hair and the beginning of the bleached area, and then applied a more green-tinged turquoise toward the bottom.  There’s a lot of variation in the colour, but my stylist says blue has a hard time sticking so who knows how vibrant it will stay.

It’s a running joke between Hubby and I that anyone can get me to agree to anything if turquoise is involved.  If he’s trying to convince me of something he gets this glint in his eye and sort of screeches the word “turquoise!!“.  Jokes on you, Hubs.

OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! And I've been thinking about doing the same thing! My hair has been purple, green, red, orange and black – but never blue, which I always wanted to try. It does wash and fade out quick – you probably already know this, but using a sulfate-free shampoo for color treated hair helps. You can also get color rinses to freshen it up. Goldwell made them, not sure if they still do? Love it, love it, love it!

Definitely try it!! I was going to try a deep peachy-pink, so maybe that's next, but I'm so loving the blue. I didn't know Goldwell made a colour rinse, so I'll have to look into it. My stylist says if it fades too quickly she'll touch up the colour for free, which was sweet of her.

Thanks!! I had originally just set some rocks up there so they wouldn't be tripped over as I unpacked but I'm thinking now they're a permanent fixture. Here's a better look at the mantle:http://dans-le-townhouse.blogspot.ca/2014/02/the-living-room-now-more-liveable.htmlMy Mom added the turquoise one to the right of my noggin just recently. It's got some malachite in it too and I'm totally smitten with it.

    A) You look AWESOME.B) Everyone thinks I'm so girly-girl domestic cooking girl, but I have ALWAYS wanted hot pink streaks in my brown hair. In fact, the day I finally had the nerve to do it, the salon was closed because it was a federal holiday! So… it never came to be. Maybe in 20 or so months when I hit the big 3-0.. ;)You're inspiring!!

Awww, thanks!! Hot pink looks so good with brown hair. I went to a conference once and one of the coordinators had brown hair like mine but her bangs (which were longish, swept to the side) were tinged with hot pink and it looked so pretty. I'm so sad that when you went to do it the salon was closed!! Is your hair the same length as in your "about" page on your blog? I definitely think you should go for it, hot pink streaks would look so great on you.

It does look awesome! Also, I totally did the same thing last year when I turned 30, except I went purple to pink!

Thanks 🙂 I'm so happy to hear someone else did this for the big 3-0. If not now, when, right? My stylist recommended some purple – she was really pushing it actually. I think purple to pink must have looked so gorgeous.

That looks fantastic. We let my then 14 year old daughter do the same to her almost waist length hair before shaving it completely off for Shave for a Cure. (not sure if you have it, it's to raise money for The Leukemia Foundation.)I would love to do something bold but seem to always just go shades of brown. My girls wonder why I bother lol!

Your daughter sounds amazing: daring and giving (and committed, to grow her hair so long!). You must be so proud of her!! I don't know many teens who would donate all of their hair to such a great cause.

So do everything before your 30 because you never know? Alright. I'll buy that. My friend's 13-year-old has blonde hair that the hot pink looks super good on her. Your turquoise is perfect for brown.

Ha ha, it's not that I'm worried I'll kick the bucket soon (I hope not!), but I just don't want to look back when I'm 100 and realize I wasn't adventurous enough or I didn't try new things. Turning 30 soon has made me realize how quickly time flies. I know the next bunch of decades will blow past me too and then one day I'll wake up and be 100. Yikes!!I had originally wanted pink but it really does look good on blondes so I opted for turquoise.

I LOVE it! Your turquoise hair is amazing! I've always contemplated some colorful streaks, but the maintenance gets me every time – I'm not good at committing, lol. This color is so gorgeous on you!

That's my fear – the maintenance, ugh! I went with dipped ends because if it gets to much, then hello short choppy do, lol.
