New White Glass Sliding Closet Doors in the Bedroom!

Exciting news: not only do we finally have new white glass sliding closet doors, I’m collaborating with Leon’s Furniture on their new blog, Hello Yellow!  As one of the bloggers recruited to create fresh and inspiring content, I’ll be chronicling a mini makeover of our master bedroom.  This has been the kick in the pants I needed to finally finish our master bedroom and create a functional, peaceful space.  I’ll be sharing all kinds of updates (new curtains, furniture, accessories and art!), but today I’m sharing one long overdue change:

White glass sliding door

That’s right: we finally purchased new closet doors (and splurged on really nice white glass sliding closet doors) – it only took about a year and a half!  First we had to remove the old broken mirrored closet doors, which mushroomed into repairing the floors and replacing the closet organizer.

The last time you saw it, the closet has been given a colourful paint job (to appease orange-loving Hubby), and a new closet organizer was in place – but our clothes remained on display.  I’m a fan of open shelving in the kitchen, but I grew weary of having a closet without doors.

But now, you won’t know that I hang my sweatshirts like a weirdo, or that I’ve been to a Coach Outlet store one too many times:

It was surprisingly easy to find modern sliding doors that we liked (we purchased ours from The Home Depot).  I was immediately drawn to the white glass, which actually reads a pale green beach glass and is light and airy – perfect for a lakehouse.  (I think that I deserve a serious round of applause for backing away from the aqua in the bottom row):

While the aqua was certainly tempting, I like the white glass sliding closet doors because they’re neutral and even though the color reads as the softest, palest green, it works well in our house.  If you look around the lakehouse, I’ve chosen many light reflecting surfaces, like the ceiling fan, the floating credenza and the wall unit.  I wanted to carry a gleamy surface into the bedroom to help create more cohesion between the spaces.  Plus, it’s my nod to living lakeside.  I don’t do literal lakeside decor (paddles, buoys), but I pick finishes and colours that remind me of beach glass, polished stones, the water – even the choppy ice that forms in the winter.

We opted for frameless doors for our new white glass sliding closet doors, for a more modern look.  Our metal options were limited with the frameless style, and I couldn’t get the brushed nickel I wanted, so we opted for white metal.  I think the white ended up looking better, anyway, because it blends in with the white trim and walls.

Triple sliding closet door

We chose a triple by-pass door so we can keep the closet configuration we like (with a centre bank of drawers) and still access everything with ease.  You can see more photos on Hello Yellow.

We’re so thrilled!  We’ve had these white glass sliding closet doors picked out for awhile but kept putting off the purchase because of the price tag (just over $800 – having three doors instead of two added a bit to the price).  I’m happy that we waited, kept saving, and upgraded from a “Builder’s Basic” style – that’s a definite perk of small space living!  Because we only need one set of closet doors, we could pick something we really, really love.

Love these doors! I recently took down a pair of wood-panel sliding doors from my closet because they were falling off the tracks. I replaced with a pair of curtains which is nice to be able to slide fully to the sides, but a triple slider would help similarly as well. Looks great!

Thanks! We had bi-fold doors in our last place, so sliding closet doors are new terrain for me. I'm happy I went with three because everything is accessible.I really like the idea of a curtain – I can definitely see how that would make reaching things so much easier.

Just like your husband, I'm orange loving too! I do like the new doors though!

Thanks! It's definitely a vibrant colour to wake up to – sometimes I kind of miss it because it used to be on full display.

Love it! I'm a huge fan of white glass, too. But I hadn't see glass sliding doors before except for IKEAs wardrobe units. How did I miss this modern option for closets. Yay! There's hope for my colonial style bifold doors. I prefer the triple bypass doors for access in a closet, too. We had ginormous (and heavy) mirror doors on the laundry closet of our last house- the washer sat right in the centre of the doors. When open, I had to reach around the frame of door to load the machine- ack! We replace them with triple bypass door when I bought a front loader to give me access to the machine. Do the doors come in custom sizes? Our bedroom closet is smaller but I'm not sure triple bypass would look right scaled down.Anyhow, i do love the new doors. Looking forward to seeing the upgrade in your room.

I haven't seen many options for this white glass, but have started to see it more and more. For example, I cam across similar finishes in bathroom cabinetry – white backed acrylic that has a similarly gleamy look. I considered it for the bathroom but was worried about scratching (plus it was pricier than walnut veneer). I hope this look because more widely available.I'm not sure about the sizing because when we went into the store, we gave the measurements to the gentleman at the doors and windows counter and he typed everything into the system and out popped a quote. I really wanted to do it myself and see the options (I'm visual person) but he read everything out to us – or just asked what options we wanted. From his tone, our door didn't seem to be a standard size – it's 80 x 80" – but I'm not sure. I wish there had been more chance to see options myself but he definitely steered the entire process. I would recommend that you head into a Home Depot, if you can, and plug in your measurements. We ordered this back in the spring and have actually had them up for a few months now. Who knows what new designs/sizes they've since come up with??? Once we had a quote, we sat on it for a really long time, went back and re-did the process just to be sure, and then placed the order. It was nice the first time to just go in and see – no pressure, no ordering – just to know what was available and what kind of numbers we were looking at.

Ohhhh they look really nice. I think the frame less was a good choice also.

Thanks!! It was actually my Mom who encouraged me to go with frameless. Frameless didn't come in brushed nickel so I waffled, but it was definitely a cleaner, more modern look and I'm happy that I had her with me at HD to chat about it.

I've been distracted and just got back to your blog… to find these beautiful doors! So interesting. We had huge, heavy, old-fashioned bypass sliding doors on our closets in our tiny house, and took them all down because they were sticking, heavy, ugly…. As you say, the open-closet look can be a bit too revealing at times. And my life's partner isn't the neatest. So here is a possible alternative. The idea of a triple bypass (sorry, couldn't resist!) is great. And I'm wondering, for such small closets as we have, if the Ikea panel-on-track curtains might do the same sort of thing. Just a thought. I love the glow of the glass doors, though. Lots to ponder here. Thank you!

The Ikea panel on track curtains are certainly an option for a smaller closet. You might be surprised at how much selection there is, if you head to your closest home improvement store. I'm sure Rona's, Lowe's, Home Hardware also boast some interesting options. I hope you're able to find something perfect! I know that staring at an open closet gets old pretty fast.

I love these doors! I found your article via Pinterest. Do you remember what the name of the line at Home Depot was? I was perusing through the store and couldn't find it, but we would love to do something very similar to what you have done for our closets.

We had to custom order it with someone at the windows and doors section. It took FOREVER to actually get what we wanted. I don't know the specific company. My advice is to head to Home Depot with a photo from this post and they should be able to track it down if it's available at your store.

All Home Depots carry local product options. I'm in California and have Contractor's Wardrobe as our option. I really much prefer your doors to anything we have here in LA. I would have ordered the 3 door bypass option in a heartbeat. They are wonderful!

Oh, that's so disappointing that you can't find anything good at your local home depot! I'm thrilled then, that I found these! Thanks for your kind words.

Hi Tanya,You have a beautiful home and I love these doors. I've been looking everywhere for some exactly like these. I went into Home Depot in my home state, New York. They don't have anything similar. Can you provide any more details as to who the vender was, or in which state your local Home Depot is? Thanks so much for the inspiration!

Thank you, Marisa. Unfortunately I don't have any info on the manufacturer beyond purchasing the doors from The Home Depot. I am in Canada and, from the sounds of it, stock varies greatly not only state to state but also Canada/US. I did, however, see a similar door at Ikea the other day. I'm not sure on measurements, but perhaps it will fit the bill for you? I'm so sorry to hear your Home Depot didn't carry anything similar!

I know this is an old post but I really would like to know where your bed frame and side table came from? Love them as well as the doors 🙂
