Modern Fireplace Tool Set

Can you spot the new modern fireplace tool set?

When we first moved into the lakehouse, we couldn’t find a spot for the fireplace tool set my grandfather welded so we spray painted the set left with the house and used that instead.  It turned out really well and looked so cute, but the handles were uncomfortably short, so our relaxing fireside evenings were punctuated with a lot of swearing as we singed our arm hairs trying to stoke the fire.

I love being thrifty, I love a good hand-me-down, and I relish the opportunity to make use of what I have – but sometimes I just want something new that works!  We decided to look for a new modern fireplace tool set and started our search at Canadian Tire, because that’s where we found the chic fireplace doors we purchased for the townhouse.  Sure enough, we quickly found a perfect, modern fireplace tool set:

It’s the Preston Fireplace Tool Set, which also has a matching log holder.  The vintage iron finish almost disappears against the charcoal painted fireplace – which is exactly what I wanted.  The best part is that the handles are really long, plus there’s a handy log grabber, which our last two sets didn’t have.

You probably didn’t notice a new fireplace tool set perched on the hearth in my tutorial for the bleached and dyed bottle brush trees (compare the photos above and below), but it’s one of those little upgrades that just makes life better!  I’m planning on hibernating for the winter soon so I’ll be logging a lot of hours fireside, which I’ll enjoy even more now that it looks a bit more sophisticated.

Disclosure: This post is a collaboration with my friends at Canadian Tire.  I was not prompted or encouraged to provide a positive review.

Hi! It's Andrea from Instagram. I just took a closer look at your blog and wanted to tell you how much I love your style. I've always thought of blue as a subdued, calming color (and maybe a little boring?) but the way you've used it in your house has me totally rethinking that. It looks so lively and bright! Beautiful work!

Hi Andrea! Thanks so much for your kind words. I didn't used to decorate with this much aqua and the addition of softer shades of blue is new to me, but this colour palette makes me so darn happy. So glad to hear you think it looks lively and bright!

Do you use your fireplace? We use ours at our cabin every night. Not great for the heating bills but I love it. I want to get pictures of our renovations/addition to you as soon as I can download them. I rely on my iPad more and more and can't seem to find the time to breakout the laptop.

We often use our fireplace. Unfortunately, the thermostat is close by (in the hall) so when we light it, the living/dining/kitchen get toasty but the office and bedrooms get chillier because the furnace shuts off. So we usually light the fire when we're going to be in the living room, hunkered down on the sofa for awhile. I would LOVE to see photos of your cabin – I have been SO curious!!!

I'll work on it. I really want to do a photo book or mobile for my husband for Christmas but am running out of time. It was so warm in Pennsylvania this weekend we used our outdoor shower on Saturday and Sunday. So warm wine on the deck trumped computer time!

It's hard to believe it's December, right? We've had mild weather too – but definitely not outdoor shower weather! More like, slightly thinner wool socks in boots weather. Nice days are not meant to be spent in front of a computer 🙂

Hi Tanya, I love the teal and green trees (trees?) on your mantel. I'd love to do something similar, but I can't see them too well in this picture. Would you be willing to share a close-up? Thanks!!

So happy you like them! It's a grouping of about 40 bottle brush trees that I bleached and dyed. I have a post with the tutorial and links to the exact products I used to make it easy. I should have included a link in this post – I'll add one right now, thanks for the nudge :)http://dans-le-townhouse.blogspot.ca/2015/11/diy-dyed-bottle-brush-trees-styling.html
