Epson LabelWorks LW-600P Review: A Label Maker to Rule Them All

I am so excited to talk to you about my fancy new label maker, which can print different fonts and even print on ribbon!  I grew up in a household where massive disputes broke out over the label maker – and someone was always ferreting it away.  When I moved away from home, one of my first major purchases was my very own label maker, which is now on its last legs: wheezing and groaning as it struggles to print.  When I had the opportunity to review the Epson LabelWorks LW-600P Label Printer, I was pretty excited to up my labeling game.  I already had a simple project in mind: label the storage bins I bought for the bathroom.  I spent a couple hundred bucks on turquoise storage bins (why are bins so pricey?) and now almost every inch of the new cabinets – even under the sinks – is lined with tidy, coordinated bins.  Getting super organized might be my favorite part of the whole bathroom renovation!

I love that my new Epson LabelWorks label maker can print with different fonts and as soon as I whipped up some pretty, clear labels for my bins, I was a happy camper.  I was locked into the same boring font with my old label maker, so this is totally amazing to me:

It was SO easy to create these labels and I could choose from a huge selection of fancy fonts (even hand-written messages), images, and symbols, plus I could print on clear labels or choose from a whole host of pretty options – there is tape available up to 1″ wide!  The Epson LW-600P plugged right into my computer (although it can also be used in battery-operated, wireless mode and can connect with iOS or Android devices).

Once I had labelled my bins, I started reading through the manual and rummaging through the label supplies I was sent.  When I agreed to review this label maker, I didn’t even realize that I could print iron-on labels and ribbon!  Whoa.  All of a sudden, I was overwhelmed with fun labeling ideas!  There are SO many different kinds of labeling cartridges for this label maker.

Iron-On Labels…

I’ve been on this incredible, surreal weight loss journey (down almost 50 pounds!) and now I’m really tempted to put an iron-on label inside all of my new (smaller) tops and pants that reads, “You did it!”  How motivating would that be?

Ribbon Labels…

For packaging sweets and gifts, I love the idea of custom ribbon.  I realized that I can now package up homemade treats with custom printed ribbon bearing the name of a loved one, the special occasion, or I can take a page out of the Max’s Homemade Cupcakes business model and print something rude, but cute (this is immediately where my mind wandered).  I’d been meaning to try some protein bite recipes for awhile so I whipped up three different batches of these healthy sweets on the weekend and put them into blue mason jars.

How to Print on Ribbon

For one ribbon I just printed the text on the end, but the ribbons can also be printed in a repeat – with any distance between the text, because everything is customizable with this label maker.  I can add shapes and images, change the font, flip the text – there are so many ways to print with this portable label maker.

Although you can’t print on any ribbon (it has to be from Epson), the ribbon is what you would expect: it feels like fabric and has a pretty sheen to it.

On the Go Labels…

At first I thought, when the heck would I need labels on the go?  But then I realized that craft vendors (hey – that’s me!) could use this to print custom ribbon tags for customers during holiday craft and artisan shows!  How amazing would it be to offer custom labels for handmade crafts or sweet treats for sale?  Something customized like, “Enjoy These Brownies Anna, Love Auntie Tanya” could be printed on a label and tied to a package of treats on the spot.  If I didn’t have this label maker now, I would totally pay for this service from a craft show vendor!  I’ve been asked to gift wrap items in my Etsy shop before, and customized ribbon would be a great add-on to offer.

Important Labels…

For more serious applications, there are also stock warnings and labels for chemicals (great for DIYers who like to decant paint, stain, varnish, etc. into smaller jars), customer service themes, audio visual images (for labeling your electronics), etc.  You name it, there’s a label for it!

I am still exploring all of the functions of the Epson LabelWorks LW-600P label maker but I have to admit that I’m really impressed!   Now I need to find a secure hiding spot so my Mom doesn’t try to scoop this next time she comes over for a visit…

Congrats on the weight loss!!!! I am down 40 pounds, halfway to my "walking around weight" as my doctor likes to call it. I have been contemplating a label maker for a while. We put captains beds (the type with drawers underneath) in all of our cabin bedrooms and I have so much storage, I almost don't know what to do with it all! I want to label the drawers (sheets, extra toiletries, spare tshirts/ sweaters, etc) so our guests can just find what they need. I bought blackboard labels but hate the way they look against the white finish. I think my office might need a label maker……… (Hubs owns the business)

Congratulations! That's amazing! I've been thinking about you because you mentioned your own weight loss journey awhile ago. So happy to hear you're halfway to your goal :)Yep, your office definitely needs a label maker 😉

Link goes to Epsom U.S. which won't accept my Canadian address. Switched to Epsom Canada and it won't accept the coupon code. What am I doing wrong?

A lot of the opportunities that come my way are from the American arm of brands, on account of the fact that my US readership is so high. I reached out to my contact to see if this coupon code can be extended to Canada and I'll let you know what I find out. I completely forgot to ask ahead of time, I'm so sorry! I'm trying to partner with brands that work for both Canadian and US readers, but Canadians often get left out in the cold because there just aren't as many opportunities from Canadian companies. I wish there were!

I double checked and, right now, this coupon code is only good for the US website for items shipping in the US. I'll update my post with this restriction – thanks for the reminder, and sorry for the disappointment! I so often purchase from US websites and ship to an American shipping depot, that I forget this is not how Canadians shop! I'll try to secure more coupons and deals for Canadian readers in the future.

Thanks, Tanya. I appreciate that you checked into this for me. Damn that Canada is 10% of the population of the U.S.!

No problem – sorry I didn't have a better answer for you! You know what else is incredible? How amazingly cheap it is to ship things in the US. A fraction of Canada Post prices!

Hi Terry! I'm so happy to hear the coupon code was useful to you! I was thrilled when I discovered that it was a nice big chunk of change. I hope you enjoy using this Epson as much as I do! I'd love to see if you tackle any neat projects with it 🙂 (I'm nosy like that, as you know).

I feel like I've been missing out all these years, why don't I have a label machine!?Love the ribbon ones they look gorgeous and great for food gifts and gifts in general. I wish I had something like this when I was DIYing my wedding! x

Label makers in general are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I bought a gold pen awhile ago and tried to make pretty handwritten labels for some bins. #FAIL. My writing is was too squashy and loopy – all of my vowels look the same. I'm thrilled that this can make script fonts so I can give up on the handwritten look, lol.I wish I'd had this for my DIY wedding too! Kids these days are so lucky, right? I even wrapped my handmade wedding favors with ribbon and printing the names would have been such a special touch.

Label all the things!!! I would die for this label maker. I was thinking the same thing for the ribbon, at crafts shows or you could personalize your orders on Etsy. I would somehow figure out how to refill the ribbon cartridge though, because I am a cheapskate and I bet they cost a pretty penny, to me anyways lol. Those mint bins are the bees knees!!!….wth ever that means, it just came out lol

The ribbon cartridges are around $19 on the Epson site and that's for 16 feet. I used two feet for each jar, but while I was fiddling I realized that I could definitely get that down to 1 foot – even shorter for other crafts. Sadly, you definitely cannot refill your own cartridges because it's a super sophisticated looking spool. BUT, I did find better deals for refills on Amazon and I'm sure they go one sale sometimes. I was sent quite a few refill packs so we'll see once I have to start buying them… Hopefully I can find a good sale!P.S. LOL you always make me smile. YOU'RE the bees knees 🙂

*blushing* hehehe$19!!! Yikes. Yeah I am sure once it becomes more mainstream they will go down in price and be available more places….. and maybe even have knockoffs or generic brands that will work in it. I just noticed I am always commenting on the price of things, I am so cheap lol.

You know, that's fair because stuff is expensive!! I fixate on price a lot too because there's only so much $$$ so you have to pick and choose your battles.
