It’s finally time for summer decorating, so I put together this easy coastal summer mantel decor at my Mom’s place! I’m also sharing links to more summer mantel decor ideas, so keep reading.
I am so thrilled that my Mom’s apartment has this beautiful fireplace (which I painted this chalky blue), because the fireplace in my house doesn’t really have a mantel I can use for seasonal decorating. Hers is much easier to decorate, so we’re having a lot of fun creating seasonal mantel looks. For this coastal summer mantel decor, I shopped my own house, excluding the stack of books, so it was also a nice (and free) way to freshen up my Mom’s space without spending any money. We’re always trading vintage and home decor pieces back and forth (sometimes against my will, lol).
I wanted to keep it light and airy. Unfortunately nothing is really flowering or in bloom where I live – the buds are just starting to green up – so I grabbed these faux lamb’s ear plants I’ve had for awhile. They look great in vintage turquoise McCoy planter pots from my collection – the color really pops against the dark blue fireplace. I added a stack of books from Mom’s bookshelves for a little height.
The pretty white vase from my home decor stash and I love the contrast against the blue. Then I lent my Mom this pretty blue glass bird sculpture from FinnStyle.
I brought over a really cool piece of driftwood – the perfect perch for my Mom’s epic collection of air plants. I have been so unlucky keeping these alive, but they really flourish in my Mom’s care! The final piece was this cute lantern – it runs on a battery and I’ve been using it in our sailboat, but we haven’t opened up the boat for the year so it was still in my closet. Isn’t it the cutest? I love how it adds a little nautical touch.
I loved layering in different shades of blue, teal, and aqua against my Mom’s dark blue fireplace. My faux fiddle leaf fig also made its way to her place, awhile ago, and it looks great here. Against her will, because she doesn’t like it for some reason, I also added a large floor vase she made (!). It’s just really neat, I couldn’t resist. I also couldn’t resist adding some vintage wicker pieces she has thrifted over the years because nothing says “summer,” like wicker and rattan!
Things are still closed here so we can’t thrift or go to any home decor stores – or any non-essential stores. Hopefully it will be safe to do so soon, because I have not been thrifting in so long! Shopping my house to create this fresh coastal summer mantel decor for my Mom reminded me how much I love finding vintage treasures. But clearly, I don’t have a shortage of pretty pieces to decorate with, haha, so this was a fun challenge to use what I had and not look for something new.
Thanks for letting me share this coastal summer mantel decor with you! Hopefully it sparks some ideas…
