Simple Fall Mantel Decor

Since painting my Mom’s fireplace a moody blue, she loves when I go over and change up the seasonal mantel decor for her – this time I lent her some decor pieces to put together really simple fall mantel decor.  I took these photos in the evening, just to try something new because I’m always photographing spaces on the brightest, sunniest days but fall (for me, anyway) is about making peace with shorter days and embracing the cozy mood at night.  Evening photography is difficult, it turns out…

Here’s What I Used for Mom’s Simple Fall Mantel Decor:

I used the DIY felted wool leaf garland we made from a thrifted wool blanket.  We actually made that for winter decorating, but I realized that it works so well for fall decor too!  And I love the contrast of the creamy white wool against her chalk painted blue fireplace.

I also brought over every tiny pumpkin I own (mostly from the dollar store) and scattered those around the garland.  They’re mostly metallic hues, like copper and bronze, with a few light blue chalk painted ones, and I absolutely love that color palette with the dark blue fireplace.  Here’s a great assortment of white and gold ones, in all different sizes, for a similar look.

The painting I made for my Mom awhile ago works with any seasonal decor, it’s such a nice neutral backdrop (here’s the summer mantel decor and last winter’s mantel decor).  But maybe I should paint her something new for this winter?

We added some copper fairy lights for ambience.

Finally, I gave her a beautiful vase I found at the landfill, of all places.  It’s made in France and has a really lovely bronze hue – with just a touch of green in real life – and it glows so beautifully when the lights hit it.  Some dried Eucalyptus (from my powder room makeover reveal post) completes this super simple fall mantel decor.

It’s easy and effortless, but adds a little festive touch and cozy glow to my Mom’s living room.

This mantle is very peaceful and ‘cool’ looking. I like how it is all simple yet well put together. Hats off to the photographer, too!
